What is new in Adobe Photoshop CS5?

Posted by Marti Wedewer on August 19th, 2010

Adobe Photoshop is the program of choice for many graphic designers. CS4 had some great additions such as the adjustments panel, canvas rotation, masks panel, and improved performance/quality of the program itself. But what does the Photoshop CS5 offer to fans of CS4? Are there any worthwhile features? Let’s look at 5 new features in the CS5.

The first new feature is the painting feature. You can click on the paintbrush on the left hand panel and pick your brush. You can then go in with this paintbrush and do different things such as blend different colors and use different brushes. The results in what that looks like a real painting. This feature can also be used over existing work to turn an original into a painted version.

The second new feature is the refined edge command that can take an existing part of a photo and paste it into a new layer. One of the hardest things to do is to capture the little details such as strands of hair when moving parts of images. But with this command, you simply go over the areas where you want to refine and when you move it to a new layer, it will look like it was originally created in that layer.

The third new feature is really an exciting new technology that can help you save a lot of time. When you try to edit an image and take one part of the image and move it to another position, the challenge will lie in the background behind the original position of the image. The content-are feature predicts the colors that would’ve been there and fills the missing background similar to the overall background. Just think about how easy it will be to retouch your images.

The fourth new feature is the puppet warp tool. What does this it allows you to take an image and edit it the way you want. As an example, if you want to make somebody look like they were leaning a little more than the original image, you can set points on the body you want to manipulate and warp it so that the positioning and look is different.

The fifth new feature is the HDR pro controls. You can really use this to transform your pictures. You can turn a picture of a beautiful sunny lakeside into a lakeside reaching sunset. You can manipulate the lighting to make it look surreal or more realistic. This is a really great feature that can help you control the mood of the photo.

There are many more features in the Adobe Photoshop CS5. The Photoshop CS5 has features that are designed to take your work to the next level and make all your editing work faster. Photoshop fans will be excited when they try out the new features and put them into action.
