Adobe releases CS5.5

Posted by Marti Wedewer on May 10th, 2011

A couple of weeks ago Adobe made a suprising announcement by unveiling Creative Suite CS5.5…we were all expecting the next release to be CS6, so why this mid-cycle release?

Adobe CS5.5What are the differences between Adobe CS5 and CS5.5?

It is important to note that in the new suite, only 11 of the applications have updates. No upgrades have been made to Photoshop Extended, Illustrator, Fireworks or Contribute. However,  with the release of CS5.5, there are new apps created for tablets (e.g. ipad) that can be used in conjunction with Photoshop.
The majority of the updates to the applications in CS5.5 were designed to be more compatible with mobile devices.

The biggest change might be in Adobe’s new pricing structure. You now have the option to “rent” Adobe software programs rather than buy programs outright. Adobe will continue with significant mid-cycle releases to keep up with rapidly changing technology. The subscription plan will keep users updated with the latest software releases.

If you recently purchased Adobe CS5, you may be eligble for a free upgrade to CS5.5…to find out you have to contact Adobe customer support.
