What Is Adobe Illustrator Used For?

Many people contact us with questions about what Adobe software class is right for them. They know what they want to use the software for, but unsure what software will provide the tools they need to do it. We find that Adobe Illustrator seems to be the application that trips people up the most…people are uncertain about what it can do. A better question is—what CAN’T it do.

Maybe you’ve heard of the term “vector,” maybe you haven’t. Usually if someone is familiar with the term, they don’t exactly know what it means…just that they need a file in that format. If you are a designer, vector is the greatest thing since sliced bread and I’ll tell you why: if you have a vector graphic you can enlarge to any (and I mean ANY) size) without distorting an image or losing any image quality. Adobe Illustrator is a vector drawing program—anything you create from scratch in Illustrator is a vector graphic. You can start your project the size of a postage stamp and blow it up to the size of a billboard and the graphics will be as sharp as the original.

The possibilities of a vector graphics program like Adobe Illustrator are endless, but let me give you some examples of projects that you can use this application for:

  • Logos
  • Illustrations (Children’s Books, Technical, etc…)
  • Info Graphic
  • Chart
  • Business Card (Stationary Set)
  • Postcards
  • Flyers, Brochures, etc…
  • Invitations
  • Snowboard Design (any other sporting equipment)
  • T-shirt Graphic
  • Websites
  • Wherever YOUR creativity takes you!

Make your designs pop, and you don’t have to take forever to create them when you know HOW to use the right tools effectively. Learn more about the Adobe CS5 Creative Suite through our Adobe Illustrator CS5 Classes.
