What’s New in Adobe Illustrator CS6?

Posted by Marti Wedewer on June 20th, 2012

It’s official…CS6 is here! Now let’s discuss what’s new and we’ll start with Adobe Illustrator:

  1. The first change you will notice right away when you open the program—the interface. Controls in the Preferences let you control the brightness of your workspace. The default is a much darker interface that let’s you focus more on your artwork.
  2. Gradients on strokes—in previous versions of Illustrator you could only add a gradient to a fill, not a stroke. Not anymore. Combine this feature with the variable-width stroke and this is a very powerful tool.
  3. Create patterns more easily with the Patterns Options panel—the panel lets you create seamless patterns that you can edit at any time, and includes instant previewing.
  4. Live Trace (converting raster images to editable vector graphics) came out in CS2 and now Adobe has created a completely new tracing engine. This new Image Trace automatically detects the most appropriate preset and you still have control in the Image Trace panel.

This is just a partial list of the many great changes to great program.
