All New Creative Cloud Updates (2014)

We’ve been hard at work the last two years to address four key areas of the Creative Cloud you told us to focus on: performance boosts, workflow efficiencies, support for new hardware and standards, and of course innovative features, which we call the Adobe ‘magic.’” (Source: Adobe.com)

On June 18th, Adobe released a new Creative Cloud for 2014. Let’s preview some of the major updates to our favorite desktop apps. This article will be followed up with more detailed coverage of individual applications.

Major updates to Popular Desktop Apps:

Adobe Photoshop CC

Photoshop introduced the Blur Gallery a few updates ago and 3 new Blur effects were added: Field Blur, Iris Blur, and Tilt-Shift Blur. New to the Blur gallery is the Path Blur and Spin Blur to add the effect of motion to your image.

Adobe Illustrator CC

A few months ago, Adobe introduced Live Corners and now they added Live Shapes. The same concept behind Live Corners has been added to the main building blocks of Illustrator—rectangles and rounded rectangles. This new feature works in conjunction with the Transform panel, which remembers  your settings and lets you return to the original shape.

Adobe InDesign CC

InDesign made some big changes with tables and formatting books for epub. Users can now move rows and columns in a table simply by selecting, then drag and drop. Now you can create highly visual ebooks (e.g children’s books) and keep a fixed-layout when publishing to EPUB format.

New Creative Cloud Mobile Apps

Adobe has added a whole new family of mobile apps including a Creative Cloud app (for iPhone and iPad) that gives you full access to the Cloud while you are on the go.

  • Adobe Sketch, a social sketching iPad app for free-form drawing.
  • Adobe Line, the world’s first iPad app for precision drawing and drafting.
  • Adobe Photoshop Mix brings the powerful creative imaging tools only found in Photoshop right to the iPad, for the first time. The focus of this release is to be task oriented, so we started with the two most-used features: precise compositing and masking. PS Mix also includes Upright, Content Aware Fill and Camera Shake Reduction—and integrates back to Photoshop CC on the desktop.
  • Adobe Lightroom mobile for iPhone, extending Lightroom right to your iPhone.

If you are a paid member, all these new updates are available to you right now! If you are ready to make the switch to the Cloud, there are several plans available for individuals, teams, educators, and students.
